First Friday

First Friday is an exciting evening escape in the heart of Greensboro. Join in First Friday of each month in 2009 for a fun-filled exploration of Greensboro’s creative Downtown. Enjoy a self-guided tour of local art galleries and studios, retail shops, and alternative arts venues will host special events, demonstrations and give visitors an opportunity to meet featured artists. The event is free and open to the public and is held on the First Friday of every month from 6-9pm. www.downtownfridays.com

Center City AM Briefings

Learn more about the very latest of downtown happenings and meet your neighbors and learn what's going on in Greensboro's Center City. This bimonthly meeting hosts a breakfast forum bringing together residents, organizations, businesses and downtown stakeholders to share information, support downtown businesses and provide programs related to downtown's development. This meeting is free and open to the public held on the second Tuesday every other month from 8:00-9:00am. Breakfast and Networking at 7:45 am. Hosted at GMA located at 225 Commerce Place in partnership with Downtown Greensboro, Inc. and the City of Greensboro. Register online or call GMA at 378-6350.

Greensboro Grasshoppers

 

America’s favorite pastime, enjoy a day with the Greensboro Grasshoppers at NewBridge Bank Park. The Grasshoppers are becoming the only Class A team in the history of Minor League Baseball to draw over 400,000 fans and grow its attendance for five straight years in a new ballpark and proud recipients of both the South Atlantic League’s Club Merit Award and the General Manager of the Year Award for the past four years.  The Season Opens with the Florida Marlins with an exhibition game versus the Greensboro Grasshoppers on April 3, 2010. www.gsohoppers.com

Carolina Blues Festival

 

The 24th Annual Carolina Blues Festival, presented by the Piedmont Blues Preservation Society will be held on Saturday, 5/08/10 at 2:00pm at Festival Park. Gates open at 1:00pm. Tickets $18 in advance $30 day of show are

BB&T Beach Music Concert Series

2010 BB&T Beach Music Concert series will run every Thursday from May 13 to June 24 at Kathleen Price Bryan Park (Festival Park) from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm. This year, the event will again include free food from some of Triad’s best restaurants at the Southern Foods Beach Music Bistro! Take a trip to the beach downtown at Festival Park, admission fee to benefit the Children's Home Society of North Carolina.  Lawn chairs, blankets and dancing shoes are welcome.  Parking accessible in surrounding streets and City parking decks. NC StoryFest

 

The 6th annual NC Storyfest, returns to downtown Greensboro, North Carolina on Saturday, May 22, 2010 from 12noon-6:30pm gathering top talent to share stories. The festival features a cast of internationally-renowned headliners featuring Blues storyteller Logie Meachum, Cuban teller Leeny del Seamons, music by The Healing Force and other featured guests, educational workshops, Youth Tellers, and a "Swappin' Ground" where you can share your own stories.  A free all day storytelling festival! Edible Schoolyard

 

The Greensboro Children’s Museum (GCM) will celebrate the grand opening of its new Edible Schoolyard (ESY) on Saturday 5/22 with a kickoff 5K Run/Walk and ribbon cutting ceremony. The 5K event, Running of the Green, will start at 8:30am and be followed by opening ceremonies of the Edible Schoolyard at 10am. Sneak preview the garden under the starts on Friday, 5/21 7:00-10:00pm at the Green Acres Gala, a theme of Black Tie and Blue Jeans for a Green Cause.The event will feature live music by the band, Walrus, and food tastings from local restaurants.  More info at  www.gcmuseum.com.

Fun Fourth

Over 90,000 people will attend Fun Fourth events this year, including the Freedom Run, the Kickoff Block Party, the Parade and the 36th Street Festival, as well as the Pops Concert and Gate City Fireworks Spectacular. Fun Fourth maintains all the favorite American Independence Day traditions and offers great entertainment and exhibits free.
