Eastern Music Festival Fringe Series: If you missed the Fringe series it’s not too late to attend a concert at Triad Stage or The Flying Anvil. The series runs thru July 13. For additional information visit www.easternmusicfestival.org/fringe/

 

First Friday Art Hop:  This Friday, July 7 features local artists from Ambleside Gallery, Artmongers, Lyndon St. Artworks, TwoArtChicks and more. Stop by galleries to meet the artists. See Lyndon Street’s new look and their creative impact on our community. TwoArtChicks offers live entertainment with lyrical poetry by Sherrille Lamb. FREE admission. Art Hop runs from 6-9pm

Greene Street Club: Greene Street opened rooftop venue on July 4 at 113 N. Greene Street.  This is a great place to enjoy live music under the stars and view downtown’s skyscape all at the same time. As a bonus, on designated days you can see enjoy the Hopper’s fireworks. Crown Royal Rib Fest:  Mark your calendar for July 14, 15 & 16 and make plans to follow your nose to the tantalizing aroma of slow cooked ribs, brisket, and pulled pork at the 4TH annual Rib Fest.  Live local bands, kiddy rides, rock wall and more. Great fun for the entire family. This is one event NOT to miss. If it’s too hot for you to venture outdoors, take an ORDER TO GO, admission is FREE on Friday before 5:00pm. The fest will be held at the Greensboro Jaycees office, 401 N. Greene Street, admission-adults $3, 15 yrs. and under FREE (with paying adult). www.jaycee.org

 

Bands in the Stands: Concert series runs April thru October featuring local, regional and national acts on the second Friday of every month.  July 14 features The Dynamites with Charles Walker (Nashville, TN).  Tickets $5 and can be purchased at the Grasshoppers box office and The Hoppers Yard.  Gates open at 5pm, shows open to all ages. www.gsohoppers.com

 

 

Team USA versus Japan All Stars: The 2006 USA Baseball National Team and Team Japan will play Game 4 of the 35th annual USA vs. Japan collegiate All-Star Series at First Horizon Park in Greensboro on July 28 at 7:00 pm. Tickets on sale through Grasshopper ticket box office or online at www.gsohoppers.com. For more information, call 268-2255.

 

The game will be part of USA Baseball's Road to the World Championships Summer Tour that includes games at eight minor league stadiums throughout North and South Carolina.

Downtown Development Advisory Committee (DDAC):  Due to the volume of vacations and other functions in July, the DDAC has been CANCELLED for July 11, 2006. The DDAC is hosted by the City of Greensboro, where many Department Managers within the City along with other key downtown organizations meet on the second Tuesday of each month to report and spearhead downtown issues. These meetings are an integral part of downtown’s growth and revitalization efforts. The meetings are typically held at 9:00am in the plaza level conference room of the Melvin Municipal Office Building (MMOB) and are open to the public.  The next meeting is scheduled for August 8.

 

 

ROAD CONSTRUCTION ALERT

 

GREENE ST. PARKING DECK: The City of Greensboro will be performing construction on the Greene Street parking deck between Friday, July 7 thru 16, read more:

 

·    Fri-Sun (July7-9): The elevator/lobby will be closed on the Greene Street side after 6pm this Friday, July 7-9.  Prep work will begin for sandblasting of the walls, ceilings and handrails due to the paint flaking in this area. Sandblasting will begin Saturday morning at 7am and will go through Sunday. Please use the Washington Street side stairs and/or elevator.

 

·    Fri-Sun (July 14-16):  On Friday, July 14, the Washington St. side stairwell/elevator lobby will be closed after 6pm for the same repairs. Please use the Greene Street side stairs and/or elevator.
