Downtown Greensboro Incorporated WELCOMES NCAA Tournament and fans to Greensboro – Downtown Greensboro Inc. and has prepared the following

 

HELPFUL TIPS for Tournament Town Goes Downtown

 

Friday March 23rd, Tournament Host Committee of Greensboro will host Tournament Town Goes Downtown Block Party with FREE concert appearance by the band Daughtry. This event is being held in conjunction with the City of Greensboro hosting the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Regional on March 24 & 26 at the Greensboro Coliseum. 

·          7:00 p.m. - Gates will open, admission is FREE, food and beverage stands will be open for purchases.

·          8:00 p.m. - The concert will begin at 8:00pm with performance from Greensboro’s own Anthenaeum, followed by Triad’s own the band Daughtry!

·         A Jumbo Tron will be broadcasting NCAA and Daughtry just above the intersection of McGee Street and Elm Street facing north on Elm Street before the concert.

 

 

PARKING

 

Capacity crowds are expected and it’s encouraged to carpool and arrive early.

 

College students are encouraged to use the HEAT bus service.

 

PUBLIC Parking decks are FREE after 6:00pm located:

 

A-Greene Street deck

B-Davie Street deck

C-Bellemeade St. deck

D-Church Street deck

 

 Purple - police barricades

 

To help ensure safety, the following items are PROHIBITED:

 

·    Lawn chairs

·    Outside food and beverage

·    Alcohol/illegal drugs

·    Fireworks or explosives of any kind

·    Professional still cameras

·    Audio or video recording equipment

·    Artificial noise makers

·    Bags or backpacks (larger than 10x8x8 in.)

·    Cans, glass or metal containers

·    Coolers (unless containing medical supplies)

·    Diaper bags (unless accompanied by baby)

·    Knives or weapons of any kind or size

·    Laser pointers

·    Signs, banners or any other item that would obstruct view or serve as dangerous projectile or security risk and any other item deemed to be prohibited by event organizers.

 

Blankets and small, disposable (non-professional) cameras ARE permitted.

 

Elm Street will close to vehicle traffic at 5:00 p.m.

 

City of Greensboro, Greensboro Police Department, Greensboro Department of Transportation and State transportation officials are working together in planning traffic management for this event. Highway electronic message centers will be in effect and trail blazing signs will help direct patrons to available parking garages upon their arrival in downtown Greensboro. Patrons are encouraged to utilize public parking decks (noted above).

 

On street parking as well as select private parking lots will be available to accommodate overflow parking.

 

Event organizers ask that patrons plan on carpooling, drink responsibly during the block party and be patient upon departing after the event.
