The holiday season will kick-off with Festival of Lights on Friday, November 30, 2007, presented by News & Record and Grassroots Productions, LLC.  Take a magical musical stroll on Elm Street with entertainment and family activities at Hamburger Square Park and enjoy holiday lighting in Center City Park and community tree lighting at Hamburger Square Park.

 

Festive Fridays, sponsored by Downtown Greensboro Inc. begins along with Festival of Lights on November 30 and December 7 & 14 from 6-9pm.  Enjoy illuminated streets, strolling carolers, Santa, Belgium horse-drawn wagonettes (12/14 only), free gift wrapping and hot cider.

Saturday, December 1st brings the Holiday Parade downtown at noon with Santa, giant balloons, holiday floats, and lots of fun for kids of ALL ages.

 

There’s plenty of festivities planned through the holiday season (see below)  Enjoy an evening at the theater, day at museum, lunch/dinner at one of our restaurants, and/or entertainment venues.

Tuna Christmas at The Broach Theatre(11/28 thru 12/8): a hilarious Tony Award nominated Broadway comedy hit by Stephen Gee and Hall Parrish returns FINALLY, in the most requested show in the twenty years of the Broach Theatre in downtown Greensboro. What better way to cap off our 20th Anniversary season than to return to the third smallest town in Texas for this hysterical comedy. Winter Walk for AIDS (12/2): Sunday, December 2, 2007 from 12:30-4:30pm. Starts at Greensboro War Memorial Stadium near downtown. 16th Annual Winter Walk for AIDS, a three-mile walk that raises money and awareness to benefit THP and other Piedmont organizations working to help those affected by HIV/AIDS. The Walk is always a powerful and moving experience as we remember those lost to AIDS, while looking to the future when HIV/AIDS is defeated. The event begins and ends at Greensboro's War Memorial Stadium and winds through the downtown neighborhoods with thousands of individuals.  Contact Greensboro Jaycees, premier sponsor if like to attend. The  Mighty Clouds of Joy, Gospel quartet music (12/7):  After 44 years and 35 albums, 3 Grammys and 11 nominations and trophy-case full of almost every award imaginable; shows that have run a gamut from the church-house to the White House, The Mighty Clouds of Joy are more than a Gospel legend. They are nothing less than a national treasure., The Clouds bring disco and funk into classical gospel and now perform with several of the original members from the 1960s including Joe Ligon and Richard Wallace at The Carolina Theatre 7:00pm.  Read more

 

Holiday Happenings at the Greensboro Children’s Museum:

    Hannukah Celebrations (12/7 & 12/8): Hanukkah celebration with music, art, dance, stories, and taste testing of some Hanukkah treats. The celebration goes on all week, special celebration times are 3pm and 6pm on 12-7, and 10am-12pm on 12/8.

    Santa (12/7 & 12/14): Make your list and check it twice on half-price Fridays, parents bring camera and to take picture of child with Santa, 6-8pm.

    The Nutcracker Performs (12/9):  Close and personal highlights with Greensboro Ballet from their upcoming show! Watch demos and see the dances from The Nutcracker. 3:30pm
