DGI’s annual Report to the Community, held September 20, 2007

Downtown Greensboro Inc. (DGI) presented the third annual Report to the Community on Thursday September 20 at The Empire Room.  Interim president Sherry Adams and chairman of the board, Chester Brown, gave an overview of downtown’s progress, upcoming projects and what to expect in the upcoming year.  Keynote speaker Troy Russ, principal and senior urban developer with Orlando based Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin, Inc. gave success story on public and private partnerships for redevelopment of urban environments.

 

DGI is proud to announce the recipients of the 2007 awards:

 

Jimmy Black

2007 J. Edward Kitchen Downtown Leadership Award

 

Jimmy Black played key role as one of the founders of DGI serving as past chairman of the board in 1997-1998 and spearheaded the growth and revitalization of downtown Greensboro with the concept of taking "baby" steps until goals were achieved. 

 

Betty Cone

2007 Downtown

Person of the Year Award

 

Ms. Cone was a leading force in saving the Carolina Theatre, preserving the J. Douglas Gaylon Depot, and establishing the Cultural Arts Center.  She served on the board from DGI’s inception in 1997 and currently  serves today.

 

Additional honorable mentions for their past and present service to downtown and DGI:

·      Daniel Craft, Craft/The Insurance Center, President and past DGI  chairman.

Bonnie McIntosh

 

Downtown Volunteer of the Year award was presented to downtown advocate and resident, Bonnie McIntosh, who has volunteered for various downtown events and is known as an unofficial ambassador for Center City Park and many downtown venues.

NEW SKINCARE SALON

 

2020 Skincare opened Wednesday, September 19, 2007, at 200 S. Elm Street opened Wednesday, September 12, 2007 and serves French technique cuisine for lunch and dinner.  Owner Stephen Scheider offers 60 different wine selections and a tapas style menu including salads, seafood and meat dishes, and desserts. He also owns 5-star restaurant Marisol’s on High Point Road.
