| O’Kennedy’s Raises $51,000 For a Cause Downtown Business owner Ches Kennedy of O’Kennedy’s (OK), a men’s and women’s clothing store at 348 South Elm, was excited about Tournament Town Goes Downtown on March 23. On that evening when over 22,000 came downtown , OK hosted a private party. Those who donated $1000 or more per couple gained entrance into OK where they were treated to private tables and delicious refreshments. OK raised $51,000 for Friends of an Earlier Breast Cancer Test, a unique breast cancer organization seeking a biological test, like the PSA for prostate cancer in men that will indicate the presence of breast cancer. One in eight women is affected by breast cancer, says Kennedy. This is important to OK because that means one in eight of the women who shop with us will have breast cancer. The connection between the women’s ACC and Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer Test goes back several years. Kennedy, currently the President of the board of the breast cancer non-profit, wanted to show support for Tournament Town in addition to highlighting “Friends” important link to the Women’s ACC. The idea met with obvious approval from donors in light of the $51,000 raised through O’Kennedy’s private event on March 23. Friends for an Earlier Breast Cancer are located in Greensboro, NC and have approved grants this year of over $400,000 to reseachers internationally.
