The Mega Movie Monday presentation of Apocalypse Now, originally scheduled for Monday, May 19th at the Carolina Theatre has been cancelled due to film availability. NC Storyfest: This free family-friendly event is set for this weekend and features an array of award-winning story tellers. The event includes professional, amateur and young storytellers and will delight and enthrall adults and youngsters. 20% discount at selected restaurants and retailers available on May 17 only. Attendees can also receive: 1a) Preview Party: Friday, May 16 from 5–9pm. David Holt and regional storyteller Cynthia Moore Brown will host the evening and showcase their spine-tingling collections of ghost stories at Festival Park. Laurelyn Dossett & Friends will provide musical entertainment. The party is for all ages. Preview Party passes cost $10 per person or $25 per family. At 9 p.m. there will be a Story Blues Cabaret with Bump and Logie, admission to the cabaret is $5 (or free if you purchased a Preview Party pass). The New Outdoor Learning Environment (OLE) will be celebrated at this fun adults-only fiesta. Ole! There will be retro dance music by the Party Nuts Band, a live and silent auction of hand-painted garden furniture & accessories, Mexican fare and adult beverages. The new OLE at GCM will be a creative play space and edible discovery garden where children can explore the natural world in imaginative and spontaneous ways. This Thursday, May 21 features free music from Michael Ken from 11:45am–1:15pm at Center City Park. The National Ride of Silence will take place in Greensboro on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 to remember cyclists who were killed while riding, raise awareness in the community for the safety of all those that ride, and ask that motorists share the road. Cyclists will meet at 5:30 pm in Center City Park and begin the Ride at 6:30pm. There will be a short program at 6:00pm. Presented by Bicycling in Greensboro (BIG) and the Greensboro Department of Transportation (GDOT). Bring your bicycle and join in ride. Helmet and release waiver must be signed to participate in ride, parental signature needed for 18 and under. Join thousands of beach music lovers at the 5th annual BB&T Beach Music In The Park Concert Series in at Kathleen Price Bryan Park (Festival Park). Series starts Thursday evening, May 22 with the Craig Woolard Band from 5:30-8:30pm and runs every Thursday through June 26. Tickets $5.00 at gate, children 12 and under Free!
