Special Events

 

 

The popular Eastern Music Festival fringe Series continues over the next two weeks with alternative programming ranging from Americana to alt country, blues, jazz and gospel.  The EMF fringe performances will be held downtown at Triad Stage, 232 S. Elm Street.  Purchase tickets for $20 at 866-579-TIXX, from the Festival Box Office at Triad Stage or online at EasternMusicFestival.org Remaining performances:

Ultimate Comic Challenge FINAL ROUND of competition this Friday, July 25.  Check out the finalists who are competing for the title of Ultimate Comic and the $1000 prize. In addition, the winner will be invited to participate in a special stand-up comedy night this Fall. The finals start at 10pm on Friday at the Idiot Box, doors open at 9:20pm, $10 admission, seating is limited and reservations are strongly recommended.  Link

 

The Greensboro Children’s Museum has daily specials of Bee Boppin Busy Bees Monday, Tuesday Tunes, Workout Wednesday, Art Connects Thursday, Fantabulous Fridays, and Family Fun Friday Nights.  FREE with membership, admission $6.00 per person (Adults/Children 2yrs+), Under 1 yr (Free), Seniors/Military ($5.00/person). The museum’s special events this week:

 

·         4th Friday Cultural Night, Friday, July 25, 5-8pm GCM will explore the different aspects of cultures from around the globe.  You will experience the languages, foods, activities, costumes, dance, and other customs of various countries. Free with admission or membership.

 

·         Weekend Move & Groove with Duncan, Friday, July 25, 5:30-6:30pm and Saturday, July 26, 10am-11am.  Join us in the Theater as we move and groove to the fun sounds of Duncan!  Kids and parents will have a great time singing and dancing along to his fun songs.  Free with admission or membership.

 

Summer Music Series celebrates Sunday in the Park this Sunday, July 27 from 2-5pm at Center City Park.  What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon!  Bring your family and friends for a fun, free, family day with music entertainment by Kris Ferris from Windfall (pop/folk) from 2-3pm, and The NutBush Ramblers (bluegrass) from 3:20-5:00pm.  Enjoy kids crafts, games and activities on the lawn and the beautiful fountain. 

 

Every Week, Every Wednesday: This Wednesday, July 30 features free music from Steve & Chuck (originals and covers) from 11:45am–1:15pm at Center City Park.  Music Every Week, Every Wednesday through October 29. 

 

·         SynerG in the Park! Wednesday, July 30, synerG will be enjoying lunch the last Wednesday of every month in Center City Park as a part of their Weekly Wednesday series! Each month, synerG features a different initiative, project and/or focus area. Look for the synerG banner & balloons & stop the table to learn about what's going on with the organization.  SynerG is for Greensboro-area young professionals age 21-39.  More info on synerG.

 

 

News/Upcoming Events

 

 

The Greensboro Merchants Association will host Center City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 5 from 7:45 to 9:00am, 225 Commerce Place.  This council meets every other month at a breakfast forum to bring local government officials, city departments, preservationists, development organizations, and downtown business people together for information sharing and support. This meeting is open to the public. Light continental breakfast, rsvp required.  To register, call GMA at 378-6350 or visit mygma.org.

 

LOADING ZONES DOWNTOWN Public Meeting: The City of Greensboro Department of Transportation will hold a public meeting regarding downtown loading zone parking on Wednesday, August 13, from 2-5pm. The session held at the Central Library will allow the citizens, businesses and anyone affected by changes in loading zone designations to review proposed changes and provide feedback. The meeting will be a “walk-in” format with staff available to answer questions and provide assistance anytime during the three-hour period. Parking is available in the Church Street parking deck with free validation. For more information on the loading zone meeting, contact Michael Cramer at 373-2568.
