Here’s a quick rundown of upcoming activities.

 

 

Stage

 

 

Tom, Dick and Harry at the Broach Theatre, Written by a father and son team who are masters of farce, this play will have you rolling in the aisles. Play runs through June 14. All tickets are $16 general admission. 520 S. Elm Street, for show times and additional information, click here.

 

Triad Stage presents Bloody Blackbeard through July 6, 2008 at Triad Stage at the Pyrle Theatre.  Edward Teach forged a blazing career as the most dreaded pirate of all time. North Carolina’s infamous adopted son was a daring blend of terror and gallantry. His high seas adventures, port city romances and deep buried treasure are the stuff of legend. Special Events

 

 

Join thousands of beach music lovers at the 5th annual BB&T Beach Music In The Park concert series in the Kathleen Price Bryan Park (Festival Park) this Thursday evening, June 12, with The Embers from 5:30-8:30pm:  Tickets are $5.00 at gate, children 12 and under Free!  Please come enjoy lots of fun, food, dance and your favorite beverages.  For additional information, visit http://www.chsnc.org.

 

Pirate Family Day: Saturday, June 14 from 10:00am-1:00pm, free family-friendly event at Triad Stage with free eye patches and nautical events along with face painting, drum lessons, and instruction on how to draw pirates. Plus, catch preview mini-performances of the upcoming production of Redbeard's Revenge and The School for Pirates. Kids can also get their picture taken with a pirate!

 

2008 Walk to Defeat ALS join together at Center City Park at 9:00am for The ALS association’s national signature event this Saturday, June 14,  to raise funds for cutting-edge research and community-based patient services programs fight against Lou Gehrig's Disease.  No fee to participate, walk route is wheelchair accessible. The All-Stars are coming to downtown Greensboro! Don’t miss The All-Star Shindig Games at the Hopper’s Stadium on Tuesday, June 17. The South Atlantic League Single-A ALL STARS  include team members from as far away as Ohio, Maryland, and Georgia. Gates open as early as 4:00pm with autograph sessions as follows: Northern Division Team 4:05-4:35pm, Southern Division Team 4:40-5:10pm, and HOMERUN DERBY 5:15–6:15pm.  Game time is at 7:00pm with post game fireworks. Bicentennial Archeological Dig at Blandwood, A cooperative project with UNCG, this archaeological survey of Blandwood offers the unique opportunity to research the culture of early Guilford County life.  Work will examine the back quadrant of the Blandwood property. The Greensboro Children’s Museum (GCM) will host Father’s Day FUN in Creation Station June 13 through June 15. Come create a special art project dedicated to your dad for Father’s Day! On Father’s Day, Fathers visit us for free!  On Saturday, June 14, GCM will have All-A-Flutter Butterfly Farm FUN and you will get the chance for an up close and personal butterfly view like you've never seen before! Free with admission/membership. Admission $6.00 per person (Adults/Children 2yrs+), Under 1 yr (Free), Seniors/Military ($5.00/person).  For more information click here.

 

Weekly Wednesdays: This Wednesday, June 18 features free music from Clay and Benjy from 11:45am–1:15pm at Center City Park.  Music every Wednesday through October 29. 

 

 

Road Construction

 

 

GDOT and Downtown Greensboro would like to notify you of the following road or lane closures:

  

·      301 S. Elm Street, 6/14/08 closing Elm St between Washington St & McGee St for placement of crane.  Detour Elm St to Washington St to Greene St to McGee St to Elm St, and in reverse. Closure will occur 5am to 9am. Sidewalk closed on east side from Washington to McGee Streets. Access maintained for local traffic.

 

·      Friendly Avenue (between Elm St & Davie St), 06/14/08 & 06/21/08 from 8am to 3pm. Closing two lanes of Friendly Avenue for placement of crane for roofing activities. Begin taper for lane closures between Davie St & Church St with access maintained to driveways and allowing left turn bay at Davie St & Friendly.

 

·      February One Place, expires 6/20/08. Temporary road closures only between the hours of 9pm and 6am. Blockage of street and sidewalk, access to First Citizens parking deck at all times, "Two-Way Traffic" sign and flagger at February One & Greene when closing road.
