Here’s a quick rundown of upcoming activities.

 

Center City Council Committee Meeting will be held Tuesday, June 3 from 7:45 to 9:00am at Greensboro Merchants Association, 225 Commerce Place.  This council hosts an every other month breakfast forum to bring local government officials, city departments, preservationists, development organizations, and downtown business people together for information sharing, support and programs pertinent to downtown. Stage

 

 

Weaver Academy for the Performing Arts presents Paul Fleischman’s Zap! His latest work focuses on our society’s need for instant gratification in the production, a struggling acting troupe attempts to compete with television by offering seven plays at once and letting the audience zap back and forth among them. This piece is sure to delight audiences with its fast paced wit and humor.  Play runs Thursday, May 29 through June 1, $5.00 for students/$10.00 for adults. 7:00pm on Thursday-Saturday, 2:00pm on Sunday at 300 Spring Street.  Read more.

 

Asia'Van'Nessa Music presents North Carolina Schools Got Talent, Thursday, May 29 at the Carolina Theatre from 6:30-11:00pm.  General Admission tickets are $10.00 in advance and $15.00 day of show.  A $1.50 Restoration fee is added to the price of each ticket.  For more information, visit the website www.NCSGT.com or read more.

 

Tom, Dick and Harry at the Broach Theatre, Written by a father and son team who are masters of farce, this play will have you rolling in the aisles. Cabaret Risque presents: Vegas or Bust!  May 30 to June 1, 2008, presented by Foxy Moxy. Come enjoy an evening on S. Elm St. with all your Cabaret Risqué favorites and some additions.  The beautiful newly donated cabaret space features table seating, bar and cocktail service and an intimate feel. Park as if heading to The Broach Theatre, entrance to venue is via alleyway between Broach Theatre and Terra Blue Shop, 518 S. Elm Street and will be marked with signs. Join thousands of beach music lovers at the 5th annual BB&T Beach Music In The Park concert series at Kathleen Price Bryan Park (Festival Park) this Thursday evening, May 29 with The Band of Oz from 5:30-8:30pm:  Tickets $5.00 at gate, children 12 and under Free!  Please come enjoy fun, food, dance and your favorite beverages.  For additional information, click here.

                                                                                                     

2008 Greensboro Alzheimer's Memory Walk, Saturday, May 31, 2008 at Center City Park at 9:00am. With an aging population and the rise of the "baby-boomers" Alzheimer's disease is on the rise. Mile of Pennies – Follow Lincoln’s Trail, third annual official Mile of Pennies event will be held on Saturday, May 31 at Sanctuary House. The first penny will be put down in front of Sanctuary House (518 N. Elm Street), at 9:00am and during the day a mile of pennies will be laid on Elm Street, with entertainment and events throughout the day, moonwalk, face painting, and games for the kids, and chair massages provided by The Jewel Day Spa for weary ‘penny pushing’ adults. Greensboro Children’s Museum 9th Birthday Celebration Luau Wow! Come celebrate GCM’s birthday Luau style with fun party music, special craft activities for the kids, costumed characters, face-painters, food and a special birthday cake to celebrate the Museum’s 9th birthday.  Come dressed in Luau attire and leis. Upcoming Events

 

 

Bicentennial Archeological Dig at Blandwood, A cooperative project with UNCG, this archaeological survey of Blandwood offers the unique opportunity to research the culture of early Guilford County life. Two Family Days are scheduled for June 7 and 14, 9am-12pm.  Volunteers are invited to come and see how archeologists work.  Please contact Dr. Linda Stine, 336-256-1098 for additional information on the dig.  Read more 

 

Join for the 11th annual TASTE 2008 Guilford County Hotel Motel Association’s on Monday, June 9, 2008 at Downtown Marriot, benefiting the Greensboro Natural Science Center.  Enjoy samples from over 25 food and beverage vendors from area restaurants, hotels, caterers and distributors and taking part in Silent and Live Auctions.  Event runs 5:30-9:00pm.
