First Friday | May 1, 6-9pm. The community is invited to a self-guided tour of local art galleries and studios, museums, retail shops, restaurants and alternative arts venues on First Friday. Many of the participating locations will host special events, promotions and demonstrations. This First Friday in May includes the largest number of venues/site participation to date! A few highlights include kick-off of Tape Art and Artbeat Greensboro, along with storytelling by Charlotte Webspinner Hamlin and friends, Matt Hill and Piedmont Blues Preservation, short skits from touring theatre company Peculiar People, Artist Ron Curlee’s abstract naturalism, collection of North Carolina's eclectic handmade art, Center City Poetry Experience and Open Mic, sneak peak of unique seating/sculptures for the new Gateway Gardens, Music Jam, and more. Tape Art | May 1 to May 8. Nationally known artist Michael Townsend creates a series of public tape art drawings on the facades of downtown retail shops, restaurants, and other highly trafficked areas with project “Drawn Together.” The public is welcome to watch the installation unfold in various locations, including a surprise site, throughout the week. Also find hidden clues within drawings. Not knowing where the next drawing will appear is part of the fun. The kick-off event is at Elsewhere Artist Collaborative on First Friday, May 1 at 6:00pm located at 606 & 608 S. Elm Street. Artbeat Greensboro | May 1 to May 10. Each spring, Greensboro is home to a weeklong celebration of the arts.
