Mark Your Calendar! Center City Park will host Wednesday's at lunchtime series Tunes @ Noon every Wednesday from May 6 through October 21 from 11:45–1:15pm and Sundays in the Park from 2-5pm on the last Sunday of each month, May through October. In addition to bands, crafts, and children's activities, the 2009 Sundays in the Park at Center City Park will spotlight selected community resources - bringing a new dimension to the family friendly events.  To see music entertainment line up along with upcoming public events, visit Center City Park.

Vintage & Vision: A ‘vintage' service will be held at West Market Street United Methodist Church on Saturday, 3/28 at 7pm in celebration of 150th birthday of Greensboro’s First Baptist Church (FBC). Congregation leaders and members will be dressed in vintage costumes, and the service will be reminiscent of one from the 1800's including the music. Church members will be walking the distance between the two church locations for the service leaving about 5:15pm and walking downtown for the service at 6pm, weather permitting. Worshipers are invited to wear late Nineteenth or early Twentieth Century attire. Buses are available to transport members from FBC parking lot (1000 W. Friendly Avenue) to the church on West Market Street UMC (302 W. Market Street).  Parking is also available at West Market Street Methodist that evening.  Find It | Map It

City View at Southside Social this Friday 3/27, enjoy samplings from Quizno’s and light beverages from 5-7pm at City View at Southside apartment’s clubhouse, 311 King Street. This event free and open to residents, friends and neighbors.

The Community Theatre of Greensboro (CTG) performance Chicago, The Musical, Friday March 20 to March 29 at the Carolina Theatre. Be “razzle-dazzled” as CTG revives this ‘Roaring Twenties’ musical. Filled with murder, intrigue, exploitation, fame, and a brilliant score by the composers of Cabaret and New York, New York, CTG’s Chicago will serve musical-theatre “Broadway” style! Blind Pilot & Citified, Thursday 3/26 at Studio B with musical project of Portland, Oregon natives Ryan Dobrowski and Israel Nebeker. The two recorded their debut album, 3 Rounds and a Sound, after completing a tour that took them from Vancouver to San Francisco by bike. The group offers a minimalist folk sound built on Nebeker's simple acoustic guitar and Dobrowski's sparse drumming. $8 in advance, $10 at the door. Doors at 7:00pm, Show at 9:00pm. More Info.

Greensboro’s Regional Mental Health Conference

 

with Keynote Speaker Lanier Cansler, Secretary of NC Department of Health and Human Services, Friday, April 3 at The Empire Room. | RSVP today

 

Cansler’s presentation is part of an all-day conference titled “See the Change…Be the Change,” the Mental Health Association in Greensboro’s call to excellence for mental health professionals, civic leaders, educators, clergy, and people struggling with mental health challenges, their families and friends. 

 

The Association’s 13th annual mental health conference sessions will focus on mental health challenges faced by college students, individuals with substance abuse, people experiencing homelessness, cultural competency, and care givers, including those in faith communities and helping professions.

 

Registration for the 8:30am to 4 pm conference is $85 per person and includes breakfast, lunch, continuing education credits, and materials.  A $35 fee is available to attend only the 11:30am to 1pm lunch and keynote address. To register, call 336/373-1403 or go online at www.mhag.org.

Center City AM Briefing

 

You are invited on Tuesday, April 7 from 7:45-9:00am to the Center City AM Briefing that provides an opportunity for you to hear what is going on Downtown and to share information about your business or organization.  Hosted by GMA, the Center City meeting combined with the former City’s Downtown Advisory meeting is open to anyone with an interest in Downtown activities. After reports from DGI and city departments in attendance, a representative from the Guilford County Sheriff’s office will update on the new jail project. 

 

Registration is open to all downtown businesses, organizations or those interested in downtown activities.  The briefing will be held at GMA, 225 Commerce Place, upstairs in The Community Room.  RSVP by calling GMA at 378-6350, or register for event online. A light breakfast is served. This event is free and open to all downtown stakeholders.

Founding chef of Marisol’s Stephen Schneider has turned over culinary reins for Rim Tapas and Fine Wines to chef Brad Semon, owner of The Painted Plate.

Churchill’s on Elm features new $6 Martini called "The Stimulus" guaranteed to stimulate more than the economy.

The two most popular radio stations and morning shows in the Triad originate from Downtown Greensboro and have for well over a decade!  Rock 92 and 1075KZL are locally owned and operated by Dick Broadcasting, recently listed to our interactive directory.

Bailey’s on Elm has changed their name to Salon Bailey’s.

Grey’s Tavern to redo of façade of the second floor in upcoming months and restore windows as close to possible to the original 1920’s design.

I Computer moved to 337 S. Greene Street (from 121-C McGee Street).

Day Shelter is anticipated to open this fall at 407 E. Washington, Southern Plate and Glass building owners donated facility to the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro.
