First Friday | 3/5/2010 | 6:00-9:00pm

First Friday is an exciting evening escape in the heart of Greensboro. Join in First Friday of each month in 2009 for a fun-filled exploration of Greensboro's creative Downtown. This event will feature new and original art and crafts, artist “meet and greets,” participatory workshops, and Around Downtown in 80 Minutes, a fast-paced scavenger hunt around Downtown.  The event is FREE and open to the public where shops and venues stay open from 6:00-9:00pm.

Embodiment Exhibition | ongoing - 3/26/2010 

Green Hill Center for NC Art, located in the Greensboro Cultural Center invites you to the Embodiment exhibition. The featured North Carolina artists offer a wide range of approaches to the visual representation of the body. Through arresting multimedia installations, photographs, and sculptural works in clay, fiber and metal, visitors will be able to explore changing conceptions of the body, and how a sensorial experience informs a psychological state. Around Downtown in 80 Minutes | 3/5/2010 | 7:00-8:20pm

Get Downtown for a great adventure and observe the fun and exciting tradition of The Amazing Race in Around Downtown in 80 Minutes. Cheer on 100 2-person teams who have just 80 minutes to visit as many Downtown destinations as possible and collect valuable points along the way. Presented by Triad Stage and Downtown Greensboro Inc. Kick off and ending ceremonies at Elm Street Center, 203 S. Elm Street. More info.

 

Beard and Moustache Club | 3/6/2010 | 8:00pm

Beard and Moustache Club of NC's Third anniversary party, a free event at Lyndon St. Artworks with music by Milltown, the Radials, and Ezette. Facial follicle fun for everyone. Bring your beards and beard lovers. Homebrew beer tasting and games. Located at 205 Lyndon Street. More info.

 

The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln | 3/7/2010 | 3:00pm

Come out and be apart of a discussion led by Bill Moore, retired director of Greensboro Historical Museum. This is a part of the "Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln's Journey to Emancipation" touring exhibit & community-wide programs of Jackson Library. This event if free and open to the public, limited seating; reservations are recommended.  Located at 130 Summit Avenue. More info.

 

synerG YP Dodgeball League  | 3/9/2010 | 6:00-8:00pm

Sign Up for synerG's Young Professional (YP) Dodgeball League administered by the Greensboro Parks and Recreation. If you thought playing dodgeball was fun in 4th grade wait until you try it as a grown-up. Interest and sign up meeting on Tuesday, March 9 from 6-8pm at the Green Bean. The season begins Tuesday, March 16, 2010 with six nights of games (Tue and Thu). Game times vary from 7-10pm.  Entry Fee: $20/person. Greensboro Public library author events | 3/11/2010 | 5:00pm

Evening with Jill McCorkle author of Going Away Shoes and Carole Boston Weatherford author of Freedom on the Menu. The evening will include a book signing and reception of hors d' oeurvres and a cash bar. Artist Talk with Holley Fischer | 3/11/2010 | 12:30-1:30pm

Green Hill Center for NC Art, located in the Greensboro Cultural Center invites you to an artist talk Thursday with Holley Fischer as part of the Embodiment Exhibition. Bring your lunch and join Holly Fischer as she discusses her hand-built clay sculptures of female torsos. Event is free and open to the public.  www.greenhillcenter.org. Located at 200 N. Around the World in 80 Days | 2/07/2010 - 3/7/2010 | 7:30/8:00pm, matinee 3/06 and 3/07 at 2:00pm. The last week of this main stage performance at Triad Stage, Jules Verne's classic tale springs to life in this clever, fast-paced comedy for the whole family. This whirlwind odyssey that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to unexpected end. Fun for ALL ages.  Located at 232 S. Elm Street. Flamingo Court | 2/24/2010 - 3/6/2010 | 8:00pm

The opening performance of the Broach Theatre's 23rd Season marks the long awaited return of Artistic Director Stephen Gee to the Broach stage. Written by Luigi Creatore, Flamingo Court is a three part 'slice of life' and follows the nosy and endearing residents of a South Florida condo community and will have audiences laughing. Neil Simon at his best, Al Lewis and Willy Clark played vaudeville as a team for 45 years, but a personal feud has kept them apart for 11 years. An opportunity to revive their act on a CBS 'History of Comedy' special sparks a reunion that has you rolling in the aisles. The international hit show Menopause The Musical® selected the Triad as one of a couple dozen 'hot' national markets for a five-day visit at the Carolina Theatre. For the ladies in your life who love to laugh and the hilarious celebration of women. Tickets are $39.50, $34.50 or $24.50, depending on location. Also, AARP Tax-Aide and the Internal Revenue Service’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, assistance in preparing your tax return Tuesday and Thursday from now to 4/15 from 9:30am- 4:00pm. AARP Tax-Aide Program is for low & middle income taxpayers, especially those 60 and over.  No appointment necessary; first come, first served; and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) on Saturdays from now to 4/10 from 9:30am-12:30pm (not available 4/03/10).
