Around Downtown in 80 Minutes, Not familiar with Downtown? Through this event, DGI encourages folks to invite new friends and visitors to come down and explore our Center City. How fast can you do Downtown Greensboro? Get Downtown for a great adventure on Friday, 2/05 from 7:00pm–8:20pm. In the fun and exciting tradition of The Amazing Race, it's Around Downtown in 80 Minutes! 2-person teams have just 80 minutes to visit as many Downtown destinations as possible and collect valuable points along the way. The first 3 teams back to Triad Stage with the most points win! Pre-registration required, register your 2-person team by 5:00 pm on Monday, 2/1. This is a FREE event, registration is limited. The Center for Visual Artists Greensboro (CVA) is selling darkroom equipment and supplies to raise money for the renovation of the chemical darkroom into a digital lab. Six enlargers, film developing tanks, paper safes to focusing aids, and more. Items went on sale Wednesday, 1/20, while quantities last. Sale hours Monday-Friday 10am-12pm and 2pm-5pm. Prices range from $1 to $20. Enlarger prices negotiable. Located at the CVA Education Office, 4th floor of the Cultural Center, 200 N. Davie Street. Holt Gwyn & David Niblock performing at The Undercurrent restaurant on Thursday, 1/21 at 6:30pm. The two locals have been writing songs and performing together for more that a twelve years with a mix of original songs, acoustic blues, classic soft rock and country favorites. CALLING ALL VISUAL ARTISTS, The Community Theatre of Greensboro is seeking ten artists to create “Best Picture” themed jackets to be auctioned as part Oscar Night® America event-the only Triad party officially sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The contest is open to all artists ages 10 and older. Each jacket will feature a “Best Picture” winner from the first 81 years of the Academy Awards. To be considered, submit entry form by Monday, 2/1 deadline or pick one up at CTG’s office on the third floor of the Greensboro Cultural Center, 200 North Davie Street in downtown Greensboro. Tickets $8 in advance, $10 at door. Located at 113 N. Greene Street. Band of Oz – Haitian Relief Benefit on Wednesday, 1/27 at The Empire Room from 7:00-10:00pm. The need is urgent and your help is needed. Please join the Band of Oz as they perform the very best of Carolina Beach Music to help raise much needed funds for the devastation caused by the earthquake in Haiti. Your attendance and donations will help orphanages, hospitals and much more in Haiti. Proceeds will go directly to Haiti through the following organizations: Habitat International, The Salvation Army, Children's Home Society NC, and Carolina Adoption Agency. Guilford County Schools and Community Theatre of Greensboro are partnering together to present Guilford County's first County Wide Broadway Musical Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Join in a special open meeting for all Guilford County Schools employees, students, and interested families who are interested in being a part of this project. Located at 200 S. Spring Street. Child-Sized Woolworth Counter at the Greensboro Children’s Museum (GCM) now to Monday, 1/25. Visit this week and see a child-sized replica of the original Woolworth Counter used for the momentous sit-in movement that started in Greensboro.
