The Harlem Gospel Choir at The Carolina Theatre

 

The Harlem Gospel Choir:  As part of the celebration of work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., join in the world famous choir on stage at the Carolina Theatre on Sunday, January 18 at 4:00pm at 310 S. Greene St. Greensboro. Tickets are $26-$28. (336) 333-2605. www.carolinatheatre.com

 

The Intolerable Burden: Constance Curry hosts this screening of her documentary based on her book "Silver Rights" that examines historical school segregation on Friday, January 16, 4-7pm at Greensboro Historical Museum at 130 Summit Ave and Saturday, January 17, 2-5pm at the Central Library at 219 N. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR. DAY ACTIVITIES include the following downtown:

 

Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Parade at 11:00am on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive from Bothwell Street to S. Elm Street, presented by the Greensboro Branch NAACP.

 

Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Peace March from the Martin Luther King Jr. statue in downtown Greensboro to the Annie M. Pfeiffer Chapel at Bennett College. Begins at 3:30pm with a march to the chapel at Bennett College followed by a reflection service and reception. More info, contact  (336) 272-7102, ext-644, or www.mlkdaytriadnc.org

 

Martin Luther King Jr. Day - Unity March, 2:30-6pm, Martin Luther King Jr. monument, downtown Greensboro. Presented by Guilford, Greensboro and Bennett Colleges.  More info, contact (336) 316-2473.

The Greensboro Children’s Museum (GCM) will kick-off celebration with a special day of events honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday, January 19 with a new program series entitled The Culture of Color.  The museum will be open on Monday 9am-12pm to everyone this day to join in the celebration of friendship and fun. Activities include making friendship bracelets, reading stories honoring MLK Jr., a Friendship Parade at 11am, and the chance to help local artist, Andrew Paulk, Sr., whose energizing art in Creation Station to create an airbrushed mural honoring Dr. King. 

 

In partnership with the Caldcleugh Multicultural Arts Center, GCM offers The Culture of Color program series. Each Saturday through the end of March, local artists including painters, actresses, storytellers, singers, dancers and drummers will be at GCM to perform.

 

The following artists are scheduled to appear at the Museum for the The Culture of Color Program Visiting Artists, starting at 2pm:
