 Downtown Business  Improvement District
 Launch - 4/12/05

The business improvement district (BID) in downtown Greensboro is a dedicated area where property owners pay an assessment to provide services above and beyond those that they currently receive.

The BID provides a consistent funding mechanism for additional downtown services: cleaning, maintenance and landscaping, marketing and events, and business development.

Clean and Green Team

Sidewalk Cleaning Schedule:

From property line to curb, team members will pick up litter, cigarette butts, leaves, etc. from sidewalks.

• Primary Pedestrian Area: 7 days/week

• Secondary Pedestrian Area: 4 days/week

• Third Level Pedestrian Area: At least 1 day per week

Tree Well Cleaning:  Team members will pick up litter from tree wells within district.

Graffiti Removal: Team will report and then remove grafitti from all public property. Grafitti on private property will be reported to Greensboro Police Department and to the property owner. Team can remove grafitti from first floor private property if owners agree to sign property waivers.

Sidewalk Steam Cleaning or Power Washing:  This will be done on a regular basis depending upon need and weather limitations.
Public Trash Receptacles:   In coordination with City Sanitation, all public trash receptacles in the Primary Pedestrian Area will be emptied seven days a week.  Trash containers will be washed and cleaned on a regular basis. Team will not pick up building trash.

Snow and Ice Removal:  As time allows, the team  will clean a 5-foot wide section of sidewalks and spread "Ice Melt," starting in the primary area and working out.

Hanging Flower Baskets Installation and Maintenance:  From May 1 through the first hard frost of fall, the team will install and maintain district hanging baskets.

Center City Resource Team

Bike and Foot Patrol:

The Center City Resource Team, part of the Greensboro Police Department, provides full time bike and foot patrol in the central business district.

Downtown will have 5 Greensboro officers to hit the streets in March 2005 as part of a effort to better serve downtown. The Center City Resource Team will get to know business owners and downtown regulars and get to know what problems downtown faces with officers dedicated to this district.
